How Much Water Does a Person Use Daily?

A safe estimate for one person is about 80-100 gallons of water every day. But, when people live together, some water usage can be shared: cooking, cleaning, and other household tasks. The average four person household goes through about 300 gallons of water every day.

Of course, your water usage rate might be different. Here are some estimated water usage statistics for basic household tasks:
• Showering: 15-30 gallons
• Brushing teeth with the water running: 1-2 gallons
• Shaving with the water running: 10-15 gallons
• Washing the dishes by hand: 20 gallons
• Washing dishes in a dishwasher: 9-12 gallons
• Flushing the toilet: 5-7 gallons

So, what size of water storage cistern would work for you? That can depend on installation. When you can't dig deep enough to install a 4,000 gallon cistern, consider chaining together four 1,000 gallon cisterns.
"When you need water, you need it right away. Having a [water holding] tank keeps it right there, ready to use."

The ABC Delivery and Installation Process

Step 1: Decide on the right cistern for you. Contact ABC and they can walk you through it.
Step 2: ABC will send you drawings and specifications of your new cistern. These should go to your contractor.
Step 3: Have your contractor dig out and level the installation location. Most contractors should be familiar with how to install an underground concrete cistern.
Step 4: ABC will deliver your new cistern directly to you. ABC uses a HIAB crane-truck to place your new water cistern right where it needs to be. You won't have to worry about cistern transportation.
